Animal Adventures - Lake O'Hara Wolverine

Originally designed in early 2023, I realized right away that if I was going to create an animal symbol for the Lake O'Hara area, it had to be a wolverine. It's the only animal I haven't seen in real life. Fortunately, I did come across some tracks at Morant's Curve one snowy morning, but I still haven't spotted the creature itself.

The Lake O'Hara area holds a special place in my heart. While researching for our second trip out west in the summer of 2010, I discovered a photo of Lake Oesa on Google Images back in 2008/2009. I planned to stay an additional week after my family returned home because I fondly remembered the area and had a strong desire to move west. Upon finding the photo of Lake Oesa, I looked into its location and discovered it was in the Lake O'Hara region. I researched how to get there and found out about a shuttle service, which sells out quickly. Being an advanced planner, I set a reminder three months before my intended visit to call, and I successfully booked the shuttle!

The area amazed me and inspired my move from Ontario to Lake Louise in the spring of 2011. I was thrilled to reside on the opposite side of the mountains from my favorite place. Over the next several years, I was fortunate to visit Lake O'Hara multiple times annually. A recurring theme was the bus driver mentioning seeing a wolverine on the road just before picking us up, or hikers returning to camp or the Le Relais shelter reporting they had just seen a wolverine on the trail. It was ALWAYS the same trail we had finished about 30 minutes prior. I always narrowly missed seeing one. To this day, I still haven't seen one.

For the mountains in this piece, I selected the view from the Yukness Ledges overlooking the Lake O'Hara region. These ledges are my favorite part of the Alpine Circuit.
