This goat was designed in summer of 2023
When designing this piece I was trying to choose which location to use for the mountains within the animal. I have been lucky enough to see Mountain Goats in several locations all across Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks. However I ultimately chose this viewpoint because I really love the shapes of the mountains from this lookout.

Mountain Goats are elusive animals. They are often found up on the mountain sides where very few people are able to go.
While driving down the Icefields Parkway I have often seen mountain goats roadside and at the Goats & Glaciers Lookout during certain times of year.

Despite all of the times I have seen a Mountain Goat in the wild, I have very few photos of them and most of them are from a distance. Most of the other times I have seen them has been at night when they are on the road side or in the middle of the road. Luckily their white coat glows bright in the headlights so I always see them with advance warning to slow down.
And now I'd like to end this blog post with a link to one of the best videos on the whole of Youtube. Back in the day Parks Canada had a theatre group and they made these videos as an entertaining way to tell the difference between sheep and goats since most people call the Rocky Mountain Sheep... goats since they resemble farm goats.
This song will forever be stuck in your head and You Are Welcome!
