This bear was designed in 2024.
When I was planning the design for this piece I knew I wanted to create something that showed the outline shape of the Berg Glacier sitting on Mt. Robson. Just the outline of the mountain is fine, but the most distinctive part of this location is the stunning ice falls of the glacier and how it meets the lake.
I decided to keep the background glacier layer always plain natural wood and unstained so that it would always stand out.

Back in 2017, I was super lucky to get 2 dates to camp at Berg Lake Campground. We were camping for several days with camera gear so we decided to fly in via helicopter to set ourselves up for success with all our gear and all the hikes we wanted to do while there.
There was an early season incident involving campers who had eaten outside their tent in the tent pad area instead of in the cooking area. They had dropped some food juices which smell eventually brought in a young black bear. The Provincial Park staff tried to haze it out of the area but the young bear kept returning. The park staff eventually had to remove it completely from the area so there was no bear warnings up when we were there.
It was definitely a reminder of why the rules in the backcountry are so important.
Both of my times at Berg Lake that summer were adventures to remember with friends and clients. The views from the air were stunning and I am always looking for ways to get back there now that it is finally back open.
The entire Berg Lake Trail reopened in 2025 after being closed since July 2021 when a catastrophic flood in the valley destroyed a large part of the trail and pretty much all of the bridges.
